California Assembly Bill 2943 (the California Bible Ban) has been making headlines across America as Christians and Absolute Patriots everywhere are alerted to the implications of this bill. What are those implications? The ultimate ban of not only Christian reading materials, but of the Bible itself.
Political news sources such as FactCheck and Snopes have frantically pushed out disclaimers in defense of the left-wing politicians pushing this bill, saying that the bill will only ban “conversion therapy.” Conversion therapy is a service provided to individuals who are deluded into various different unnatural sexual orientations. Oftentimes parents want therapy provided to their young children who are wrestling with a sexual identity, but the Californian lawmakers want to regulate the rights of parents. Seeking to ban conversion therapy applies to therapeutic services, book and Bible sales, and potentially even preaching within churches.
California assemblyman Evan Low, the author of the bill, tweeted this statement; “A church or individual may still practice conversion therapy if they do so without charging for this fraudulent service. It does not ban bibles nor does it ban the basic sales of books as some would have you believe.”
To listen to the statements of one biased lawmaker as absolute fact would be to fall for a gross deception.
Contrary to Low’s statement, California Assembly Bill 2943 has more than one example of concerning language, easily earning it the title of the California Bible Ban
The first part of the bill openly states “This bill would include, as an unlawful practice prohibited under the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, advertising, offering to engage in, or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual.”
Seeing as the Bible is very clear on sexual orientation, this law can easily be interpreted to apply to Bible sales and transactions. The phrase “sexual orientation change efforts” does not specify that it applies only to therapeutic practices; it can apply to the sale of any material that disagrees with any sexual orientation.
This bill is a gross infringement of the first amendment and inhibits free speech, free trade, freedom of religion, freedom of press, and basic parental rights. If it passes, it won’t remain exclusive to California. Other states and lawmakers will follow suit, and simple American freedoms will continue to be assaulted under the guise of “civil rights.”
The bill is not limited to regulate only therapists and medical professionals. It states “unfair or deceptive acts or practices undertaken by any person in a transaction intended to result, or which results, in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer.”
Moreover, the penalty of the law can be applied before the law is even broken. “Advertising, offering for sale, or selling a financial product that is illegal” implies that even so much as posting about books and bible verses that deal with sexual immorality on ones Facebook page could be considered illegal and fall under the umbrella of advertising. This could also potentially prohibit the sale of books and bibles at conferences and even on resale websites such as Craigslist and eBay.
This California Bible Ban could go so far as to prohibit events, conferences, seminars, or any public gathering with paid entrance.
With all of the rather frightening implications of this bill, only one restraint has been placed on it. The bill applies to “transaction intended to result, or which results, in the sale or lease of goods or services to any consumer.” This potentially results in a ban of bible, sexual conversion therapy, and christian resource sales.
An unconstitutional encroachment on basic American rights is being pushed through the California legislature. It is hidden behind flowery words and emotional pleas, but it is there nonetheless. This bill is a step towards government control of speech, of thought, of trade, of press, etc.
The “thought police” are no longer just over-zealous internet trolls who tell their Facebook friends what to think.
They are sitting in the American legal system, pushing an agenda that will fundamentally change the USA from the free land our founding fathers fought for to a communistic society of policed thought and controlled speech.
California Assembly Bill 2943 is an enormous, alarming step in that direction. Despite the shady reassurance of left-wing media and liberal politicians, this bill is a massive mistake at best and a destructive assault on liberty at worst. The bill changes how Californian christians and patriots will be able to live, speak, think, buy, and sell in their own home state, and eventually how American christians and patriots will be able to in their own home country.
